Enjoin an Alcoholics Anonymous Meeting List

Alcoholism is a terrible affliction to bear. It turns its sufferers into social pariahs that nobody else wants to associate with and it reinforces the self built walls of imprisonment that alcoholics impose on themselves through their own lack of willpower. And yet it is only by the application of that same willpower, the lack of which led them into the clutches of alcoholism in the first place, that will eventually cure them of the illness.

The cure for alcoholism is a long and tortuous road that demands the support of their peers in order to succeed, and the third step along that road is putting their name on an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting list.

The first step of course is admitting to themselves that they are indeed alcoholics. This in itself is not an easy thing to do. Alcoholics will avoid this truth for as long as possible, for they know that to admit it, is to face an unpleasant truth, and truth is often what they are using “the bottle” to hide from in the first place. This admission compounds existing feelings of inadequacy and fosters feelings of low self esteem.

The only way forward (the second step along the road to recovery), is to join Alcoholics Anonymous, which ultimately leads to the third step of putting their name on the local Alcoholics Anonymous meeting list.

There is no miracle cure for alcoholism. However there is strength in numbers, and having put their name on an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting list comes the all important fourth step of actually attending a meeting; becoming part of that small community of suffering alcoholics who are banding together in order to use each others strengths to cure themselves.

At each meeting, the members are encouraged to openly admit to their alcoholism in front of their peers. This is a consolidation of a truth hitherto admitted only to themselves.

One of the unfortunate facts about alcoholism is that in addition to ruining the alcoholic’s life, it also causes severe damage to relationships, especially to loved ones who are witness to the addiction and who may try to help. A practicing alcoholic can be extremely devious, hurtful and sometimes even violent.

The act of putting their name to an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting list alone can be a huge boost to those people close to them who are looking for signs that the alcoholic is at last trying to deal with the truth of the matter.

For most alcoholics, the only real cure is total abstention. It’s rather like smoking, just as dangerous, (perhaps even more so to others), and just as addictive. People often think they have managed to quit smoking or at least that they can control the habit, and they have another cigarette just to prove that they are in control.

That cigarette leads to another, and another, until before it is realized they are back on forty a day again. Alcoholism is no different. One drink call easily open the floodgates and that is why that those on the Alcoholics Anonymous meeting list should vow never to touch alcohol again.

An Alcoholics Anonymous meeting list is a schedule of like minded people with but one single resolve; to quite the booze. With each other’s help, the help of friends and family, their own strength of character and hardened resolve, they will win through.
